Frank Miglorie
From my youth through my adult life, I loved education and the arts. I began exploring drawing with charcoal and moving on to oils during high school and followed these interests through college and graduate school. Although my primary academic focus in college was on philosophy, I also pursued further study in art. As a professional in higher education for 42 years, I earned the rank of full professor while at the same time serving 4 years as an academic dean and 29 years as a college president. During this time, I continued in the arts by studying ceramics and eventually establishing a pottery studio.
My abiding focus through the years has been working in clay, both wheel throwing and hand building. Most of my work is functional; however, I also enjoy sculpting in clay. My mission as an artist is to create forms that stimulate the “eye” of the viewer and enhance that attraction by using decorative devices such as wax resist, brushwork with metallic oxides, and adding sculptural elements. My work reflects my unique aesthetic sensibilities because I make my own glazes and create my own designs which have constantly evolved due to the changing environments in which I have lived. Residing in Vermont, North Carolina, and now Vero Beach has exposed me to a dynamic tapestry of changing colors, flora, fauna, and communities which have influenced my work in major ways. Presently I have sold work throughout the United States and some foreign countries. I continue my work in clay at my studio, Sound Shore Pottery at 1047 W. Polo Grounds Drive, Vero Beach. |
