Josie Capozzi
Josie grew up on a 400-acre farm in the small Town of Jefferson, NY. As a young girl she was passionate about nature, art, and sports. The day after her high school graduation she moved to New York City on her way to Southampton College where she was enrolled in the Fine Arts program. Following college and a stint in a NYC art gallery, she moved to Connecticut, where she met her husband Phil.
From Connecticut they relocated to Syracuse, NY, then to Ocean Grove, NJ and they currently reside in Vero Beach, FL. While in Syracuse Josie spent several years as the manager of WCNY | PBS televised auctions, which included her favorite position as curator of the annual three-day art auction. She and her husband resided in Ocean Grove for nearly 30 years, where she was a senior executive of a national franchise company and active in the local art scene. Now as a full-time resident of Vero Beach, Josie’s passion for creating art is her focus.
In addition to commission work, her exhibitions include: WCNY Broadcasting, Syracuse, NJ | Gallery 629, Asbury Park, NJ | Art On The Porch, Ocean Grove, NJ | Oceanic Library, Rumson, NJ | and several inclusions in local charity auctions and fundraisers.
Techniques and Inspiration
The fundamental elements of light and shadow never fail to capture and challenge Josie. Painting in oils provides her greater flexibility in understanding the duality, intrigue and emotion represented in even the most modest of concepts. The longer process of drying and layering pigment appeals to her character. She admires many local and international artists who convey ideas and emotions simply and truthfully through art.
